Dadar School for Blind Girls – Mumbai, India

This school was established in 1900 and currently houses approximately 175 girls in the school, who all live at the facility.

The girls range in age from 6 to 18 years old. The Society has been supporting this school for several years with financial aid and items such as

Braille paper, toys, talking watches, talking calculators, Braille rulers, transistor radios and

mobility canes (just to name a few). We gave away Graphite Folding Mobility Canes which were donated by

Ambitech – Winnipeg (85 canes); 67 folding canes & 18 straight canes.  These supplies have vastly improved their quality of life.

Ahmadnagar School - Ahmadnagar, India

This school started over 30 years ago under a tree and has grown to over 1700 students between

the ages of 11 to 17 and is still expanding.   Since our visit in 2003, a new Canadian Wing has been built,

that included more classrooms, upgraded washroom facilities, computers, educational supplies, and a large feeding hall.

There has also been a big brick wall constructed around the school to ensure the safety of all the children and teachers.

The Society for the Welfare for the Physically Handicapped Resource Centre – Pune, India

The For Love of Children Society supports this Handicapped Centre with clothing, bedding supplies, toys, as well as educational supplies.

There are approximately 250 children living at the Centre.  In 2003, our trip brought us to the Handicapped Centre,

where we gave out school supplies (pens, pencils, pencil crayons) as well; we also had a number of leg braces

(donated by the Alberta Children’s’ Hospital).  These modern braces are made of molded plastic with Velcro straps.

The leg braces were very welcome, as they were currently using metal or wood braces with leather straps.

Ashid presented medals to the students with outstanding marks in their school work.

Model Orphanage – Orissa, India

This is the New For the Love of Children Model Orphanage in Orissa.  There were a group of children who were forced to huddle

around a smouldering log to find warmth against the winter.  Now, they have their own blankets, pillows, sheets,

mattresses, kitchen utensils, plates, educational supplies, etc.  The Society will look after their well being until they can fend for themselves.

Orphanage & School - Ahmadnagar, India

This orphanage houses more than 400 children (boys & girls).  The Society has been helping with educational supplies and has built a water

well to benefit children and teachers alike.  The Society also spearheaded the project to repair the roof and put in windows.

(during our visit there, it was painfully obvious that this Orphanage needed lots of TLC (tender loving care).

While touring the facilities, we discovered that the children were sleeping on the concrete

floor on mats with just a blanket for their cover.  We have since helped in providing beds for the children.
