Breaking Barriers in Nepal: A Milestone Achievement for Sushma Pariyar
As we welcome the New Year, we are thrilled to share inspiring news from Nepal! Over the years, thousands of children have graduated from For the Love of Children Society (FTLOCS) schools, with many going on to pursue higher education. One of our proudest success stories is Sushma Pariyar, who recently earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Travel & Tourism from Tribhuvan University—becoming the first girl to graduate in this male-dominated field.
In a society where girls were often discouraged from pursuing this career path, Sushma’s accomplishment challenges the outdated notion that they could not excel in Travel & Tourism. This remarkable young woman began her journey with us at the Kathmandu Primary School at the age of 8. Despite facing immense challenges, such as studying by a kerosene lamp and sleeping on the floor, Sushma never wavered in her determination and always carried a radiant smile.
FTLOCS fully funded her 4-year university tuition and even provided her first computer, a moment she cherished deeply. Today, Sushma works at a Tourist Hotel in Kathmandu—a position secured with our support—and her manager is thrilled with her performance.
Sushma, like so many children we support, embodies the spirit of FTLOCS: perseverance, gratitude, and the drive to break barriers. Her journey from a humble childhood to a groundbreaking graduate serves as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved with opportunity and belief.
Congratulations, Sushma, on paving the way for future generations and making us all so proud!
